I ran across two songs on 99X (97.9 fm) in Atlanta that caught my attention. They’re both a little “different” and that’s probably why they caught my attention, but they’re also pretty good. “The Cave” by Mumford & Sons and “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance have gotten a good bit of radio play lately despite not having a mainstream sound. My Chemical Romance has been around a while and has made a pretty big name for themselves while Mumford & Sons formed back in December of 2007 and just now seems to be taking off with the popularity of this song.

My Chemical Romance – “Welcome to the Black Parade”
I don’t know much about Mumford & Sons, but based on that song, I can’t really see myself getting into them. I’m not really a huge fan of folk rock–unless you’re talking about Neil Young, Dan Fogelberg, or Traffic. They are/were all great, and very dynamic as well.
I never was a huge MCR fan either, but I voted for that song because it’s a little closer to the hard rock style I typically like. It just had a bit too much of a pop punk element for me to really like it.
